Today is Tuesday 20th September. Initially, Sara and myself (Abisola Ekerin) were going to be in a group by ourselves, however, after weighing up the work load and realising that our trailer idea was too complex we had to make a few changes. We decided to join forces with Chris and Dilan. They too were in the same predicament as us.
After combining our groups together with them, everything became easier as we able to divide up the workload, however, we still needed to pick which idea that were going to go with.
- Our (Sara and myself Abisola's) initial idea was inspired by the American singer/songwriter Ashanti’s music video for her single "The Way That I Love You" taken off of her 2008 album, The Declaration. We used it as a starting point and later incorporated a lot of our own ideas within it to make an interesting storyline. For Sara and I to make this teaser trailer we would need lots of props, several actors and numerous locations.
- Chris and Dilan’s idea was also very good and at the same time more convenient it was a comedy which they had thought up off the top of their heads. Chris and Dilan had found three volunteers to play the main character in their teaser trailers, all of them very capable and willing to play the role of a dragqueen. One of the volunteers also happen to be a student at the infamous BRIT School (The London School for Performing Arts & Technology).
For this reason we all as a group we should go with Chris and Dilan's story for the teaser trailer.
The main idea behind the idea of the trailer was that there would be a teenage boy who had the traits of a typical gangster, yet there would be a twist and this was that the so called "gangster" would have a secret passion to be a drag queen.
We all sat together and discussed the storyline and what we would have to do in order to be fully up to date with what we had to do and when. We photocopied the storyboards after making some amendments so that we each had a copy. We then started improving the idea in general and operationalising it so that the idea's were realistic and easier to film.
Dilan had one of the locations in mind, which was Covent Garden, to film one of the scenes but also use the location as an establishing shot at the beginning of the trailer to set the tone of the film.
The genre of our film is a comedy, and we all knew that comedy was not exactly an easy genre to take on as everyone has a very distinctive idea about what they find amusing and funny, therefore we knew that we had to do a lot of research on the genre so we started off with each of us looking at 2 comedy trailers each and deconstructed them according to mise-en-scene: locations, props/costume, dialogue and sound and see if we thought that the trailer was successful or not.
We decided to use trailers from recent films, in order to see what kind of comedy films are a hit at the moment, however we came across a little problem when realised that not all of the films we were actually looking at had teaser trailers, so we had use full trailers instead.
Some of the trailers which we looked at were: The Hangover, Shaun of the Dead, Bridesmaids, Bad Teacher.
